This reduced the number of forwarded messages on WhatsApp in India by more than  25 percent. Whatsapp  continuously working  to explore new solutions to address the spread of viral misinformation.

Banning spam accounts:

 WhatsApp includes an advanced machine learning technology that works around  to identify and ban accounts participating in bulk or automated messaging so they can’t be used to share misinformation. By this approach whatsaap  restricted more than  20 million accounts from the platform per month, seventy five percent of them without a early user report. Whatsapp released a white paper on the impact of these practices.

Updated reporting: 

WhatsApp made many changes to its reporting functions inside the  app. Earlier WhatsApp provided a feature to “Report Spam.” Now this feature is called “Report” to motivate  users to inform about a range of potential issues they faces on WhatsApp. Following this , they now provide the choice for people to keep reported information on their device if they wants to share them with fact checkers or law enforcement officials.

Grievance Officer: 

As part of spreading processes in India, whatsaap continues to work a pace with government authorities to keep their users secure. They have employed a Grievance Official based in India, who can be reported directly if any user has any problem about their WhatsApp experience and is not feasible to report it through any other channels.

Work with government and civil society :

Law enforcement training: 

In coordination with Government of India, whatsaap provided training to law enforcement on how to use WhatsApp as a means in their clique. The members learned how to reply to citizens on WhatsApp and how to make official requests of WhatsApp in the process of inspectioning a crime.

Digital literacy training:

Working with respected local experts advisors, WhatsApp developed a training curriculum to help users detect fake information and stay secured. Whatsapp have two active partnerships to train people across India, containing a project with the Digital Encouragement Foundation aims on 15 states, and other with NASSCOM Foundation that aims to get connected about 100,000 Indians with trainings to track false information and provide guidelines and tips to be secured on WhatsApp. WhatsApp provided a syllabus that they  developed to the Government of India, which in time will be made it available on their education portal soon.
